Origin Energy to buy power from Acciona''s Waubra wind farm

Origin Energy and Acciona Energy have announced a long-term power purchase agreement, under which Origin will buy output from the Waubra wind farm in western Victoria in Australia.
The Waubra wind farm is owned and is being built by Acciona Energy and it will generate 192MW of electricity, enough green energy for 143,000 households each year.

Under the agreement, Origin will be supplied with renewable energy and renewable energy certificates (RECs) to support its mandatory obligations under the government's renewable energy target.

Karen Moses, COO of Origin, said: "Wind energy is currently one of the most cost-effective and fastest-growing sources of renewable energy in the world, each MWh of wind energy generated avoids producing one tonne of greenhouse gas emissions."
